About PROPAGRI

In 2021, 13.1% of the youth aged 15-29 years in the EU were not employed, nor in education or training. Italy was the country the most affected by this societal challenge, with a share of 23.1% of its young population being NEET. The situation of the agricultural sector makes it especially vulnerable to the lack of trained young people, because generational replacement is not ensured, which puts at risk the continuation of farming activities.

The challenges faced by youth in agriculture encompass unemployment, educational failure, lack of references, social and economic barriers, and many more of them that hinder their integration into both the professional and the social worlds.

The agricultural sector confronts other major challenges related to climate change. Sustainable agriculture, raised as an essential drive in the fight against climate change, needs more human labour than initially anticipated, yet there is an increasing trend of individuals turning down positions in these fields.

The project strives to bridge the gap between youth people in need of employment and the agricultural sector, that requires more workers.  PROPAGRI, coordinated by Nivot Agricultural School, is composed of five partners from different countries (France, Belgium, Serbia, Italy, and Germany).

Project objectives

The project has four main objectives:

All these objectives aspire to create a set of working opportunities for NEET youth in agricultural-related jobs through a specific training that will provide them with the skills needed to engage in sustainable agriculture.

O PROPAGRI
